Gosh I was so sleepy this morning I almost fell asleep waiting at the traffic light! This is serious stuff- I better get more sleep tonight. I got to kolej a bit late (8.20am) but managed to find a spot at Medan..I then spent about 1/2 hour writing the log for yesterday in the research lab (henceforth RL), then went for OS. After 10 minutes I was already struggling between being awake and being asleep. I think I was semi-unconscious for the rest of the class :(
After OS we had our first OOSE prac, which was quite okay, though I think I need to practice my C++. Then HK, Terence, Ian, Choon, Li Hao, Tracy, Kah Wai, Michelle and I went for lunch at Medan (with me tapau-ing my kantin food first of course). There wasn't enough space at Medan so Michelle and I stood around for a bit- there was a table but I was too blur to rush for it, gotta work on my perception skills...we compromised by squeezing with the others at the round table, but we managed to find a table suddenly, so good for us(and the rest) then....as usual Michelle ate some fruit only, I wonder how she survives sometimes. We then went for DBMS, which I slept thru again.
After DBMS was OOSE, during which Andrija raised the issue of rescheduling the class, making Wednesday 9-5! But that's ok I guess I'm sure I'll survive as long as I sleep early on Tuesdays...after OOSE we had DBMS again and this time me and HK terus tidur aje..
Terence, HK and I went to Mr.Lim's room to get the key, then we camped in the RL for a bit. I've run out of things to download so I'm bringing my computer home tonight. I was too tired to learn JSP, so I played Soccer Manager for a while, then went looking for Bel at 5. I found her in the comp lab, talked to her for a bit- I think she's too busy to see me on weekends, so I'll try weekdays...see how lar. After that I went to the other lab to find Darren, Choon, etc. playing Neo Pets! I see a good opportunity for a successful game design here..I'll think about it in a few years.
Expectations for tomorrow:Talk to Bel in the morning, then spend the day in the lab with little breaks to see Michelle for lunch, chit-chat, etc.

Actually I'm writing this on Wednesday morning in the research lab, but to maintain continuity I'm doctoring the date of this entry..
Didn't get enough sleep last night, so halfway thru OS I almost passed out- after that was a short break during which I went to the library with HK, Terence and Ian- Michelle found me there and we went to see Mr.Lim and Mr. Andrija while the others went for breakfast at Medan. Mr.Andrija is a funny fella- he has recursive dialog! He repeated the same topic in the conversation over and over and Michelle and I just nodded our heads while thinking 'When is it going to end?'. We then went to the research lab for a bit, then walked down to the kantin to buy a drink. After escorting me back to 3.13 Michelle went off to Sg.Wang.
Data Comm was ok but I was darn sleepy- we talked about parallel vs. serial communication I think. After class I tried to get lunch in the kantin but it was too full so I settled for a muesli bar in the research lab. Ian, Mary, etc. did work for a while, until Mr.Lim chased us out so he could do some work with the Apiit's. We had lunch in the kantin then returned to our work, which continued on until evening. Michelle joined us around 4, and we did some reading on OOP since we both missed the Friday lecture. Adrian came to install Win2k on one of the computers, and most of us were distracted by Mary and HK playing with their Neopets :)
Eventually everyone went their separate ways leaving me, Darren and Sue-Yi. Choon Ling came back around 7, so I locked up the lab, dumped my computer in Mr.Lim's room 'cos I was tired and then Choon Ling and I went to Carrefour, returned his CD and bought dinner, then went to his house to watch Stargate- quite an ok episode. I then spent about 2 hours looking thru his brother's Star Trek tapes, until I found a particular episode to watch hehe. I went back around 12.30 in the morning.
Expectations for tomorrow: Since Suet May cancelled dinner plans I'll probably stay in kolej if I can get HK to keep me company. It's a long day tomorrow, and I'm only going to get 4 hours sleep so I'll definitely sleep during/skip classes.

Something amusing happened while I was driving today- I thought up a song about my sister! Here's some partial lyrics, its got a western kinda tune to it..

Learnt a bit about TCP/IP today during Data Comm- but the tute was full of 1's and 0's which made me feel very sleepy...after that me, HK, Ian and Choon Ling went to Medan, then I got some rice and stuff (bungkus) for later. We then hung out in the research lab.
Around 1 pm I met up with my sister and we went to eat at Medan- Coreen and Dev joined us there and even after 1/2 hour my sister's food hadn't come, so she settled for the donut and curry puff offered by Coreen. Then I went for my OS prac.
OS looks like a tricky subject- using CVS was interesting, but I don't look forward to working with the Clayton ppl. After OS I went home for a bit, then around 7.20pm went to BK to tapau dinner, fetched HK, went to BK again to tapau HK's dinner, then finally reached kolej at 8.30, set up my computer, then buang masa for a bit- talked to Pui Mon for a while, then Terence came around 9.30...and I typed out this log:)
Expectations for tomorrow:Light dose of lectures, which means lots more time for work:) Plus lunch with Michelle if she manages to get to kolej by 12 pm.

Yesterday's expectations were met.
(I did spend a bit of time talking to Maybelle and Sime though, and my usual SMS chatting with Michelle, so not an entirely uneventful day I guess.)
Expectations for tomorrow:My first OS prac, should be interesting. Plus a 3 hour break to muddle around with JSP again and inform Joe we're dropping him from the team.
Saturday, July 21, 2001 (11:50 p.m.)
I had such a wonderful dream last nite (it's too personal to type here), and I was so happy until I realised that it was too good to be real and then I woke myself up, leaving my morning self in a rather disappointed mood. I called HK and Ian but they didn't want to come to the research room today, so I expected just me and Choon Ling to be doing stuff today. I tried calling Jason this morning only to find out he was in Australia! I wish someone could have told me that...my sister didn't even tell me- though I can't expect any chumminess from her or Bel after the way I've been acting.
Some problems were discovered this morning- the JSP server which I d/l yesterday could only support 5 users at one time, which is a problem for our dbase project. Looks like I gotta learn Tomcat (NO!)..Choon Ling brought me Mcdonalds for lunch, I gotta remember to pay him back:)
Well after 3 hours I managed to get IIS configured with Tomcat- what a hassle. Terence dropped by after Choon Ling left and stayed a while, then Choon Ling came back around 4 and stayed on until 7 with me. I downloaded a lot of Southpark, plus some Family Guy episodes- bringing my computer to the research lab has worked out just fine:) Dr.Hiew was around for a short while in the evening so I asked him whether our project could be converted to one of the third year subjects and he said NO. Looks like we'll have to take the certificate option instead of the 20% internal mark (20% is kinda small for such a big effort). My handphone has run out of credit, so no outgoing calls from me for a while.
Choon Ling, Darren, HK and I went to Tmn.Tun in my car to eat the satay Fahmi told me about, but the stall was closed so we settled for a restoran nearby instead- nice kambing satay though. Kar Wai joined us a bit later, and we spent quite some time talking about the cartoons we used to watch when we were kids- He-Man, Bravestarr, She-Ra, Jem, SilverHawks,Transformers,Xmen,Dino Riders, etc. Around 10 pm I sent HK to Tmn.Megah, then sent Choon Ling and Darren to Choon's car at kolej. I got back around 11.30, with barely any petrol remaining.
Oh, I see Jason online now- but he's ignoring my ICQ messages. I hope that's because its not him that's using his UIN at the moment, and its just one of his friends. I miss the days when I was important enough for ppl to keep me informed :(
Expectations for tomorrow: Dull day cleaning my room and organising stuff.
Friday, July 20, 2001 (11.30 p.m..)
I wasted my morning going to my mother's office to try and fix her printers and getting stuck in a traffic jam on the way home. Then I had just enough time to do some work, email it and rush for Friday prayers at Bkt. D'sara.
I met up with Fahmi, Harris and Amin for a few minutes after prayers then rushed to kolej, only to be delayed further by the guards at the security room who insisted I get an equipment pass 'cos I was lugging my computer over to Monash. Since they were quite busy with other matters, it took awhile before I got my pass.
Around 3.30pm I finally got my computer set up and everyone started to play around with it - I think we wasted about 40 mins on that. Then Ian, Li Hao & Joe went home, leaving me, HK, Terence and Mary behind to muddle around with Tomcat and d/l JDK. Eventually our numbers dwindled to just me and HK, then Choon Ling joined us at 7 pm. We left the research room around 8.30pm, put my computer in my car and went to Jaafar for dinner. Then we all went home.
Expectations for tomorrow: Spend the morning d/l stuff again like today with HK and Choon Ling for company.

Well I discovered something interesting today, seems like our OS group pracs will involve Clayton students- how tiresome, what if they're much better/worse than us? We'll have problems dividing up the work...tute wasn't that boring, everyone introduced themselves and we finished early (always a plus).
I spoke with Bel for a short while this morning, but Pei Shi came over so it was a bit awkward (what with my lack of Chinese speaking skills) so I went with Wen Yung up to the research lab, where HK, Terence, Ian, Joe, Wei Shiung and Li Hao were working on the project. There wasn't exactly much for me to do, and the others went for WWW lecture leaving me, Ian, HK and Joe to tinker around with the comps (mostly d/l songs and watching HK getting stressed over the HTML).
After Mary,Terence and Li Hao came back we finished up the specs, convinced Ian and Joe to join the team (I think its a bit too big though) and handed it to Mr.Lim at 12.50 pm. Then everyone went their separate ways- HK went home, and I went to fetch him and go to Low Yat Plaza to look for my monitor.
Looking for the particular Samsung model I wanted proved difficult (we stopped for a late lunch at KFC while the shopkeep was checking his supplier), but we eventually ascertained that it cost RM6500, which was way overpriced. I bought a game for Zheng Chi and a network card for myself, then HK and I went to 1 Utama.
HK paid his fine (RM30 only fortunately) then after browsing a few stores I sent him home. At home I continued searching for a monitor online, and eventually settled on a Compaq one which costs RM6000, but its worth it. I also spoke to an Eizo distributor, but his monitors while canggih were way too pricey.
Right now I've been chatting with Gina and Pui Mon, and I'm gonna d/c soon and catch up on some work (yes, it does sound dull huh?)
Expectations for tomorrow: Doing work in the morning, then going to kolej after prayers with my comp so I can download stuff in the research lab! Hopefully a happy day, download-wise :)

Well I've finally decided to try this online diary thing, I'm not sure what to write though, so I'll just summarise how each day went, plus an expectation for the next day.
This morning I had my first DBMS lecture at 8 AM, which I was quite awake for (lets face it, I'm a morning person), followed by OS at 9, during which I had several split-second blackouts (you know how it is, you're desparately trying to stop yourself from falling asleep, suddenly you black out for a split second then jerk 'awake', usually seen by a sudden jerk of the legs...keep an eye on me during lectures next time and you might see it, its really quite amusing!)
After OS HK, Terence, Ian and I went to Medan for an early lunch, then we went to the research lab to work on the database project with Mary. We (well actually I didn't help much, HK did most of the HTML, with Ian and Li Hao chipping in for some small bits, and Mary typed out the document) made a draft spec for our database, and submitted it to Mr.Lim.
I left close to 2 pm and waited for Bel outside her class, but her lecture ended 15 mins late (why do engineering lectures always go overtime?), so I missed part of my OOSE lecture...no loss anyway, since I couldn't catch on to what the guy (Mr.Andri) was talking about anyway. After that was another hour of DBMS, then HK and I went to MegaMall to try and settle his parking fine- unfortunately the police system was down so we just walked around the IT World for a bit, bought some pastries and went back to kolej. HK went home, I talked to William for a bit at MUSA, then went to comp. lab to say goodbye to Poorna (she's leaving tomorrow:( ) and see Choon Ling, Sue-Yi and Darren.
I had a great idea for the database design so I hung out in the research lab and made a prototype using Access- it worked! But data entry proved tedious. Terence dropped by for a few mins and took a look, then went to discuss it further with Mr.Lim and returned with a few refinements that helped make it better. Finally, we've made some serious headway! I downloaded and watched an episode of Stargate, then went home.
Expectations for tomorrow: A boring tute with Ms.Mailini in the morning, followed by a little bit of database work, then me going to Low Yat around lunchtime.
